Peter Mc Bride - Update March 2002

Solicitors acting on behalf of the family of Peter Mc Bride have been informed that a decision is due within weeks in their legal battle to have the two soldiers convicted of his murder removed from the British Army. 18 year old Peter Mc Bride was shot dead by two members of the Scots Guards Regiment on September 4 1992. For over four years the family have fought a legal battle to have Guardsmen Fisher and Wright dismissed from the British Army following the decision to grant the men early release and the ruling of an Army Board that they could remain in the army. For almost ten years now the family have been treated with contempt by the authorities. The present Secretary of State, John Reid MP, provided false and misleading information to the family while Minister of State for the Armed Forces. Senior Government Ministers and military personnel disregarded military regulations regarding convictions. The press, in particular the Daily Mail, printed false and libellous accusations. Meanwhile the two Guardsmen were sent to a military base in Germany. It has been almost a year since the Mc Bride family applied for a judicial review of the Army Board ruling.
